    Making the Kite Flying Thread!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     maanitshah says it was a couple of days before the Kite Flying Festival in India and there were people everywhere making kites for the big day.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

I was walking around the streets of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and saw a little village where everyone was making "manja" or the thread used in the Kite Flying festival in India. They mix crushed glass powder in color (pink being the most common), and then use this spinning wheel while manually using their hands and apply that liquid mixture to "strengthen" the threads which are used to cut other people's kites on "Uttrayan", the kite flying festival!
