Your memories of Isaac Hayes |
Theme from Shaft
I was lucky enough to have seen Isaac perform the 'Theme from Shaft' several times at the annual Saint Hill Gala Charity Concert in East Grinstead, West Sussex in the UK, for which he was the headline act. It was wonderful to see him perform it live and it was always the highlight of the show. He helped raise thousands of pounds for charities such as the National Association of Ex-Offenders, the Litchfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (cheque accepted by actor David Suchet),'Humanity First' a charity which provides basic needs to poverty-stricken areas of Africa, the Mayor of East Grinstead's Charity Fund and the R.S.P.C.A.
The photo, which is of Isaac with well-known photographer, Hy Money, was taken at the concert in October 2004.
Isaac supported many other humanitarian causes such as the World Literacy Crisade http://www.worldliteracy.org/ and the psychiatric watchdog Citizens Commission on Human Rights (established by the Church of Scientology) which awarded him a CCHR Human Rights Award http://www.cchr.org
