    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     cwlsmith, storm chasing enthusiast, says that this was one of the more nervous situations he’s had chasing a storm.

    Tornado and funnel cloud minutes before a powerful tornado touches down and leaves major damage in Mapleton, IA. The tornado blew down trees and tore off roofs in town. Emergency personnel blocked the entrance into town minutes after the twister hit. I was in the town 20 minutes before the tornado struck, but drove a few miles SW along HWY 175 to get a safer vantage point. Many storm chasers were in the area as well.
