ABC Cancels All My Children and One Life to Live.

After weeks of rumors, ABC announced Thursday that it was canceling All My Children and One Life to Live.

Declining ratings and rising costs spelled the end for the two soaps. Industry analysts point to the long, televised trial of O.J. Simpson in 1994-95 as the event that burst the soap bubble.

But is canceling always the only the solution?

NOTE: Episodes of AMC will air until September, OLTL until January.
