John Edwards admits to extramarital affair |
Alright, lets actually think about this
I was a John Edwards supporter when he was campaigning and I would still support him if he was campaigning now. Great men and leaders before him have had affairs, leaders who have proven themselves as presidents and civic leaders. Extramarital affairs are not new to public officials, only the sensationalism that surrounds them. For example...
Bill Clinton took office in 1992 when there was a multi billion dollar deficit, and turned it into a surplus. He worked to bring peace between the Israelites and the Palestinians, set aside a record amount of land for conservation, respo nded swiftly to the crisis in Kosovo, and left behind a robust economy. He now manages an international organization that targets poverty, disease, and global warming. His presidency is constantly reffered to as an era of "peace and prosperity." And yet he was almost thrown out of office.
Why?
Sex in the closet.
President Bush has repeatedly violated the constitution. Dragged us into complete mess of a war based on lies and false intellingence. Instigated the use of torture. Stood by and did next to nothing while the greatest disaster in our history took place. Pulverized our international reputation. Stuck his head in the sand while the rest of the world took action on global warming.. (need I go on?) and he got reelected.
Why?
Because he is conservative churchgoer with an (almost) clean record in his personl life.
John Edwards co-sponsered a Patients bill of Rights in the Senate, created a program in NC that pays for the first year of college for kids, wrote a book, the earnings of which will go to support victims of the humanitarian crisis in Uganda, and worked to bring dozens of volunteers out to New Orleans. And he is supposedly going to suffer a political freefall.
Why?
Because of a private problem that was totally between him and his family for two years and should've stayed that way.
We need to get our priorities straight people. I'm 18, this is my first year as an eligible voter and when I cast my vote it's going to be based on what that person does in the office, not between the sheets.
I think one bumper sticker I once saw sums in up.
"What's worse, screwing and intern or screwing the country"
