Mirror Lake, The Ohio State University 1 May 2011

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Robert Peterson, a student at Ohio State University, captured a striking image of hundreds of students that had jumped in Mirror Lake singing patriotic songs around 1 a.m. 'The whole campus was lit up with spirit as the news of Osama Bin Laden's death swept over the world. The whole night, people ran through the streets, blowing noisemakers and shouting in happiness,' he said. As for his personal thoughts, Peterson says he has grown up in the age of terrorism. 'I do not feel it is right to celebrate the death of a person, but what we are seeing here is the demise of terrorism. Thus, I am not so much enamored for the death of Bin Laden as I am for progression toward a safer, less violent world.'

Thousands of students at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio gathered at the iconic Mirror Lake to celebrate the death of Osama bin Laden and to remember those who have lost their lives in the almost 10 years since the 9/11 attacks. Students jumped into the lake chanting "U.S.A", singing alternate versions of traditional school songs, and the National Anthem. Photo by Robert Peterson.
