    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     todp flew up in the sky with his pilot instructor friend on May 8 to get a look at the flooding below. 'I saw massive flooding all along the Mississippi on both sides from Grand Tower to just below Cairo, Illinois, and in through Metropolis. Along the Ohio river, the flooding does not seem to be quite as bad, but it is still flooded in many areas. Where the levees were blown, near Cairo, water is spread as far as I could see on the Missouri side at 2,000 feet altitude.'

    My friend and I went flying over southern Illinois along the Mississippi yesterday 5/8/2011.  I took 100's of photos.  Here are a few that show the extent.  These are all along the Mississippi river.  We basically flew down the middle and ended where the Mississippi meets the Ohio river south of Cairo, IL
