After bin Laden: What's next? |
Hijacked (Original Song) - Post-9-11 Feelings
News of the Bin Laden death inspired me to write this. It's essentially how I've felt from the September 11th attacks until now.
It's your story of where you were and how you heard the news
I'm a 19 -year-old freshman in an otherwise busy room
Passions flared. We were scared. And sure we had differences still
But they were outweighed by what freedom made and became collective will
In the days that followed there was nothing we wouldn't do if asked
Those selfless voices waned making louder those that sought to sew seeds of doubt and divide
Here's our reply:
To those of you screaming and calling out names
We're leaving the room where you're saying such things
You hijacked from us what we gained after loss
And put a blemish on those who died in its cause
We let slip away a resolve we said would not pass
Your voice is done. 'Cause tonight, we're taking it back
I heard the news tonight of a bullet to the head
And even now there's conflict over even evil's death
That of joy or relief, and of where the credit lies
But when the name-calling begins you overlook the bottom line
We write the script that comes to define us
The things that we believe
Become the reasons they'll defend us
Can we on that agree?
To those of you screaming and calling out names
We're leaving the room where you're saying such things
You hijacked from us what we gained after loss
And put a blemish on those who died in its cause
We let slip away a resolve we said would not pass
Well tonight, we're taking it back
We can't take away your right to say whatever you want
But you are RARE and will be drowned out in our common ground when we speak out
To those of you screaming and calling out names
We're leaving the room where you're saying such things
You hijacked from us what we gained after loss
And put a blemish on those who died in its cause
We let slip away a resolve we said would not pass
Well tonight, we're taking it back
