    Fire destroys family's home

    Ridgecrest, CA – Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at approximately 4:34 P.M. the Kern County Fire Department, received a call for a structure fire at 732 W. Church St. in Ridgecrest. Approximately 16 firefighters responded to the incident including 4 Fire Engines, 2 Fire Investigators, 1 Battalion Chief , an Engine and Chief Officer from the Naval Air Warfare Center, China Lake Fire Division, and Officers of the Ridgecrest Police Department

    On arrival, crews were faced with a developing garage fire that had already spread into the attic, and living area as well as igniting a pick-up truck in the driveway. Crews worked simultaneously, making an aggressive attack on the residence and protecting adjacent structures.

    Major damage sustained to the residence by the fire included the garage, kitchen and a bedroom, with significant damage to the remaining structure resulting from smoke and heat, causing an estimated $200,000 in damage to the structure and its contents. Quick actions of firefighters resulted in an approximate save of $300,000 to the adjacent residences. The two occupants that were home, were able to escape, with their pets, unharmed

    No injuries have been reported. An exact cause has yet to be determined and further investigation is continuing.
