This iReport is part of an assignment:
Are you overworked? |
Nahh! This JOB is Insane!
Let me tell you Straight. Being a Housekeeper, Janitorial, even CNA is the most overworked, underpaid and unapreciated job you can ever have. So if you're working in the office you better thank god that you won't have to stand up and move your butt off constantly, because this type of job will kill you physically, mentally and all sorts.
I'm a Housekeeper for 3 years running from a simple Motel, to now working at a vacation resort in a undisclosed location. And even though I have my great moments there's always moments of cleaning these rooms in a fast timely matter which many cases the guest leave these rooms like a hurricane. I work mostly 11 to 12 now sometimes with 1 day off because of lack of personnel. And even there were co-workers of mine who worked from 5am to even 9pm three days ago because we're understaffed and the hiring process require that everyone will pass the drug test which almost 98% fail.
But please another issue, Housekeepers comes from all roads of life. From a CNA graduate, to a unlicensed massage therapist who's going to get her license to in my case a college degree. And many people who's reading this post will ask why are you working instead of working in a office. Well, the reasons are simple there's no jobs related and I faced a lot of discrimination.
Anyway, we finished our shift with incresingly pain in our feet, knees and shoulders most of the time. We were feeling like seniors on the verge of being in a Nursing Home. Think carpal tunnel isn't enough? Yesterday, it was the bomb. 87 arrivals for nearly 6 people to work on! And today, it's worst.
So at least, you office people are very blessed, so please, be happy with what you have and don't complain. Because you wouldn't want to be in my wasted shoes for even an hour.
Final issue, having 4 day shift, isn't a great idea, unless they pay double which the employers will never, ever going to do.
