War in Iraq: 5 years later |
Salute to Staff Sgt Jorge Sanchez
Robin PLEASE salute my husband Staff Sgt Jorge Sanchez of the 3rd infantry division in Ft Benning, Ga, who is ALMOST DONE with his fourth middle east deployment. I met my husband as a "pen pal" during one of his previous deployments. It started out as a chance to support a soldier with letters and care packages turned into me meeting, falling in love with, and marrying the love of my life. Now our young son and I anxiously await his return in a few weeks after more than a year of deployment. Being separated is very difficult, but our love for each other and frequent communications via email and phone have made it bearable.
The Iraq war is a tragedy that has cost our country dearly in lives, money, and human suffering, but part of me is strangely thankful! If not for the war, I never would have been a pen pal for a soldier and met my husband. I hope that other families have been able to find something positive in this sad situation. I am thankful every day for my husband and the sacrifices he makes for our family and our country.
Thanks for keeping the troops in the minds of your viewers. Nicole Sanchez, army wife
