University of California, San Diego Chemical Lab Caught Using Racial Slur on Their Website
A group of Chinese American scholars recently discovered that for two years, the racial slur "Chinaman" has been used on a department of chemistry and biochemistry website at University of California, San Diego. Many in the Chinese American community found the term "Chinaman" discriminatory and shows lack of judgement. After letters of compaints have been written to the department and university, the website was taken offline, and apology letters were issued by both the department and the professor who overseas the operation of the lab admitting that the "lab rules" were insensitive; however, several Chinese American civil leaders still are not satisfied with the result and would like to seek further action to raise awareness of discrimination in the whole University of California system.
