Shakira performs with Mix FM in her home country Lebanon for the first time ever

On May 26th, 2011, tens of thousands of Lebanese people of all ages gathered at the Mediterranean sea front to witness a night of extraordinary proportions. A night that was hoped for and dreamt of for years, finally Mix FM, Mix Productions and Solicet have made it come true. International popstar and icon SHAKIRA finally set foot on stage in her own country in a night that was unimaginable until now.

Underneath the stars and along the glittering lights of the Beirut coast, last night Shakira produced an incredible concert at the New Waterfront in Downtown as part of “The Sun Comes Out Tour” covering her latest two albums Sale El Sol and She Wolf. [1]

A stage and arena set up unlike anything ever seen before in Lebanon, it was packed to the brim with eager onlookers as Shakira finally took the stage to begin this epic night. On stage alongside her were a full band and dancers and behind the scenes a crew of 65 people that travel with her around the world to create this show.

The crowd was sent into a dancing and cheering frenzy as Shakira throughout the night performed her biggest hits like Whenever, Wherever, Loca, She Wolf, Gypsy and more.

An outstanding reaction was received from the crowd as she sang Ojos Asi which pays tribute to her home country and that has been long awaited to be performed live in Lebanon.

In her encore she performed the biggest selling single of the decade Hips Don’t Lie[2] which the crowd eagerly anticipated throughout the show.

Finally she ended the show with none other than a track that brings everyone to their feet worldwide, and the theme song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup football season, Waka Waka[3] where lucky winners joined her onstage to dance in the finale.

The production of this event was huge beyond proportion as compared to the history of concerts Lebanon has seen. From the first day of sales this event was expected to be a success but even that was exceeded and Shakira’s concert has opened up Lebanon to the world of international pop artist superstars, being placed on the map in most positive way possible. As she sang “Waka, Waka” the whole audience joined in singing along giving everyone that bittersweet feeling of the end of a remarkable night.
