Scholarshipped into a two week global issues institute at Indiana University, Bloomington this summer, I discovered the true meaning of global citizenship. It awakened me, and changed my life, at the young age of 50. I am not sure I've matured much in 50 years, as the fires of youth still burn in me. Until now, I have focused on my intellectual growth, completing 10 years of university, beginning at age 39, and continuing in short spurts of enriching college experiences even now. After my global studies with people from several cultures joining me, I now want to put the intellect to use, and move out into the larger world to be among the people who have inspired me so much. I plan to try for a teaching job in China, and continue experiencing new cultures in as many ways as I can. I also learned the value of the local experience, and plan to involve myself in community missions to help those not as fortunate as myself! I can't keep getting fat on intellect and feel at 50, it is time to get out into the world and do something! It is exciting, adventurous, and feels like freedom!
