Close Your Legs-Put A Raincoat Over It

I just heard a CBS news cast about how aids is spreading in the Black community in the south. As a person who use to be a paramedic in New Orleans and Atlanta, 2 cities with a majority of Black people, I remembered  this case of a  24 year old Black female, lying in the fetal positon dying from this awful disease. She had a boyfriend and a husband and both men were HIV positive. Needless to say she was having sex with both men. There was also a case where a bi sexual male married to a woman who had a 12 year old child from a previous marriage. He knew he was HIV positive but he did not tell her until he had to be admitted to the hospital for pnemonia. The doctor thought she should know and he told her. She was hysterical and get this my I report friends, she was the only bread winner in the family. She died a few years back along with her husband. Her son had to be supported by family members. I don't have to listen to news reports to get information about aids in the Black community. I see it every day in my profession. We went to colleges to test students and find that 30 percent were HIV positive. That was back in 1996. face it people, there is a percentage of the population that will not take this disease seriously and when it does hit them, they demand every benefit that they can possibly get. Well guess what- health benefits will not be picking up the tab for this problem. If you apply for a job- they will do a T-cell count on you because jobs do not want to pay for benefits for people who are considered high risk. Once you have been infected -so one not even your friends will want anything to do with you. Oh Yes, they may tolerate you before the symptoms start showing, but when your physical appearence starts looking a little rough around the edges- that my friend is when it will end. No need to preach to teenagers, they think they are going to live forever-Let me suggest they witness the real thing- A 23 year old who is in the fetal positon, a hard fungus growing in her mouth called Candida- a skeleton grasping for breath lying in a roach infested county emergency room.
