    Stargazing in Africa - Amazing!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     pipedog shot these photos in June 2009 of the stunning stargazing conditions in the rural areas of Namibia. 'As a child, I wanted to be an astronaut so I could see what it would be like to see how vivid the stars are in space,' he said. 'While looking up into the sky from the red sand in the Namib Desert, hundreds of miles from civilization, I thought to myself, "This is as close as I will feel to space without actually being there."' This photo was chosen as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day.
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

The Namibian desert in Africa host some of the best stargazing on the planet. Literally every 1-2 minutes a shooting star falls before your eyes. I stayed up to 3am watching stars fall from the sky. There you can see the Milky Way like no other place on the planet. I shot these photos using a 45 second exposure. There are very little edits to the images. This is exactly what you see when visiting the area.
