    Stop Child Slave Labor

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Michalski, Campus Minister at Benedictine Academy, says the campus ministry has taken an active role in fighting human trafficking and child slave labor since the 2007-2008 school year. Seven of the students attended a rally on June 8 in Times Square calling on Hershey to use fair-trade certified cocoa. Candace Harvey, a Benedictine alumna, filmed the documentary.

Our students at Benedictine Academy are determined to help eradicate child slave labor.  They recently participated in a Rally at Times Square, New York City organized by Green America, Global Exchange, and International Labor Forum.  We were encouraging Hershey to change their practices and to lead the other manufacturers in using Fair Trade.  They have made posters, banners, paper airplanes for freedom, spoken with the United Nations, and students at other schools, universities, and rallys.  This past week they were awarded the NJ Jefferson Governor's Award for their public volunteer service efforts.  They believe that you only need a heart full of compassion to make a difference in our world.  Attached is a recent documentary on child slave labor to raise awareness.
