Olive Tree with 2850 years in Santa Iria de Azóia , Portugal
Santa Iria de Azóia, is a small village located 7 kms to North of Lisbon in Portugal that has 18.000 people. This village is basically known by a peaceful place to live, with an amazing history and monuments, some that deserves better attention to the authorities like Quinta de Vale Flores, a Renaissance masterpiece which is waiting for reconstruction and studies during the last 20 years.
Recently, an habitant of the village called Cristina Mendes , which belongs also to a local association that studies the history of the village was observing an Olive Tree and believe that should have lots of years. She contacted the local and national authorities to classified it of Public Interest.
After three weeks of studies by UTAD (Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro) , the communication arrives. It is a Olive Tree with 2850 years, (margin error of 2%, according the studies) the second oldest in the country.
This olive tree has a base of 10,15 metres and has 4,40 m high , with a 7,60 x 8,40 of crown diameter . According Cristina Mendes, it was an amazing surprise and said that never imagine that this Olive Tree had so many years.
