    The worst vacation ever

Wasted Trip to St. George Island, Florida

We rented a unit on St. George Island in a quadraplex with a pool. We had rented there the year before, and everything was fine, but this time, there was a pile of dirt and food underneath the kitchen table, pots and pans under the kitchen sink filled with stinking waste water from a leaky drain, hair and blood stuck to the shower wall, and the pool was filthy. My fiance cleaned up the water, dirt, food, hair, and blood, and we called the Property Management company, and they sent someone out to fix the kitchen drain and a pool maintenance person to clean the pool.

When I went to the pool the next day, it was still filthy - the maintenance person had made a half-hearted attempt to clean out the sand and debris. I called again, and this time they cleaned it and chemically "shocked"  the pool.

The next day, I called them again because the pool filter wasn't operating. They eventually sent another pool maintenance person out who told my fiance the pool water level was too high for the pump to work, and proceeded to drain water from the pool, assuring my fiance that the drain was on a "timer" and would shut off automatically.

I inspected the pool that evening and immediatly realized that the water lwas overflowing from the pool. Apparently the "timer" never shut off.

It took another full day to drain the pool back down to the proper level, and I called again to report the filter still not working. This went on every day until the last night.

Some other vacationers had checked in, and as I was loading up our gear, one of them struck up a conversation with me asking how I had enjoyed my stay. When I told him of my complaints, the filth, and calling every day to no avail to get the pool in working order, he said the pool person was fixing it as we spoke - because he had called the office 30 minutes ago. I asked why they responded to him in 30 minutes when they had given me lip service for a week and he replied that his Dad owned the property! He said he was disgusted too and was going to take up the matter of finding a more competent Property Management company.

The Property Management company refused to refund any part of our money, and as it had been too windy to use the beach, we had basically spent $461 in gas to get back and forth to a $1000+ vacation rental where we spent the week stressing out and watching TV.
