    Growing up with 'Harry Potter'

    Dumbledore's Army

I’ve been a Harry Potter fan since 1998 when my best friend’s dad picked up the first book at Barnes and Noble. She lent it to me and I’ve been captivated ever since. I've had so much fun reading and watching the movies throughout my childhood, adolescence and into my adulthood. I'm now 21- the same age as HP himself. It's been great growing up with JK Rowling's masterpiece. It's sad that it's coming to an end, but all good things must come to an end I guess.

These are pictures of some of my best friends in High School and myself during homecoming week our senior year. The theme of the day was favorite celebrity day, so we decided to go all-out and dress like the cast of Harry Potter including: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Neville. I love Ron, so I tied up my long hair in a bun and stuffed it under a red wig that my mom and I cut ourselves from a Scooby-Doo Daphne wig- we obviously did a really nice job (sarcasm).

Our outfits were not complete without our cat, rat and owl beanie babies we carried around. We also had broomsticks, wands and we tried to convince Neville to carry a plant around, but he decided against it, lame.

We spent the whole day yelling spells and phrases from the movies, riding into classes on broomsticks and attempting accents.

During lunch time we went to Pizza Ranch and some old lady, bless her heart, asked us if we were dressed up as ex-graduates. She didn't understand the robes. It was a good laugh.

We had so much fun that day we took it a step further and made it a tradition to dress up for all the movies as well. We even recruited a Luna! We were putting the Luna costume together one night and were in need or radish earrings. Ironically, my mother had bought radishes that day. So we took those and made some authentic radish earrings. You can see them in one of the pictures. We made it to every midnight showing from then on in our attire.

This July, I will not be able to make it to the midnight showing with my friends in Iowa because I’m interning in Dublin, so I wanted to take the time to upload these pictures to let them know I will be thinking of them as I wait in line on July 15th without them. It just won’t be the same, but we must not despair. Instead, we need to find the rest of those Horcruxes!
