Growing up with 'Harry Potter' |
Growing Up and Aging with Harry Potter
I met Harry when I was 10, turning 11. I waited for my owl, unfortunately being left disappointed. For Christmas, the following year, I was bought a stop motion animation kit, and I shot a stop motion version of the first book. In addition, I produced countless drawings in reference to guesses as to future events, or simply representations of scenes described in the books. I wrote fan fiction, which inspired me to write a 200-page fantasy adventure of my own. I sounded out some of the John Williams soundtracks to the movies on the piano, and became inspired to pursue a career in film scoring. I would often play the movies on a TV and mute it, and watching the action on screen, I would improvise new songs. There is also the obvious impact, that the books encouraged me to read more.
I was Harry's age with each book as they came out, and I always had another story to look forward to soon. The movies also corresponded pretty evenly with my age.
