McleodGanj CandleLight Vigil for Kandze

On the evening of 28 June, 2011, the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress organized a candlelight vigil in McleodGanj, India, capital of Tibet in exile, in solidarity with the Tibetans in Kandze County (alternately spelled Kardze), Kham, Tibet, where protests against Chinese oppression begain with renewed fervor in early June.
Sine 6 June, over 40 arrests have been made in Kandze, many monks and nuns from local monastic institutions. Chinese police and military forces are tightening surveillance and controls on the area.
The march formed at the main square starting at 6pm, with RTYC members distributing candles and informational flyers on the situation in Kandze. By 6:30, roughly 150 people from the Tibetan exile community, Tibet supporter expats and tourists had gathered to particpate.
The march circled the small downtown area three times before proceding down Temple Road to His Holiness Dalai Lama's main temple, where an RTYC board member read the statement, first in Tibetan, then in English.
In conclusion, they called on the international communtiy to speak out against human rights abuses in Chinese-occupied Tibet.
