Girl for Sale
Girl for Sale is an online interactive exhibition co-produced by Girl Museum and the American Poetry Museum. It examines the subject of girl trafficking through poetry, art and education. The exhibition invites visitors to share words, artwork, opinions and resources to raise awareness about trafficking and to become a part of the project.
Girl for Sale is set to continue over the next three years, incorporating contributions from the public, new partnerships and Girl Museum volunteers. There are ongoing collaborations with the Kolkata-based organization, Apne Aap and New York-based Girls Education and Mentoring Services (GEMS), and events being planned in the North American trafficking hubs, including at the ASU Art Museum in Phoenix.
Girl Museum is a new virtual museum space, creating online exhibitions about girlhood. Girl for Sale is part of their contemporary social issues series that looks at today’s world for girls and the history of how this reality came to be. Exhibitions feature artwork, photographs, blog posts, audio and/or video recordings.
If you are interested in participating, contact Ashley E. Remer (ashley@girlmuseum.org), head girl of Girl Museum to see how to help. They are accepting donations of money, time, artwork and poetry.
