It was a bittersweet day.  Came to Cape Canaveral to watch the last Shuttle launch from my Mom's condo.  So many emotions including such a respect for all the NASA professionals (of which my Dad was once one), such awe to watch that beautiful machine soar toward the heavens, thankfullness that my kids could be here with me to witness this historic last flight, and a tremendous sadness to see no tangible specific goal for our national space program.  As I drove through Cocoa Beach, a somewhat economically impacted area, to know that the loss of so many jobs and more importantly, loss of such a source of pride, would now cause more struggle for the area. I have never seen so many people here and can only hope that we can again find a common goal that can demonstrate the incredible ability of Americans to strive, tirelessly work and achieve so much through the power of the American Spirit.  I hope everyone understands that the Shuttle era was so much more than the obvious accomplishments but was a source of inspiration for youth, national confidence for all and hope for this great country.  God Bless America !
