Murder At Virgin Islands Golden Grove Prison Makes Federal Takeover Near Certainty
A 20-year-old inmate was stabbed to death Saturday at the embattled Golden Grove Correctional Facility on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. The incident occurred exactly one month after federal authorities petitioned to take over what they desacribed as a "drug-infested, crime ridden" institution.
The incident comes comes at the end of a week of incredible community tension in the Virgin Islands, as the corrupt Administration of Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr., and an equally indifferent Virgin Islands Legislature, slashed salaries of government workers by 8% - a move that will most certainly breed more crime as people struggle to find money for the bare necessities of life.
