My Ten Sense: Plan to work til you drop or plan to retire comfortably
You've heard it. I've heard it.
Social security is going to be bankrupt when we finally retire from working.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Nevertheless Americans are worried about their retirement and their children's futures. The few jobs that offer pensions are underfunding them. Some workers are saying they will work until they drop.
According to a recent Associated Press Poll, 57% lost retirement money during the Great Recession and 44% don't think they can retire comfortably. And less than half the respondents in a recent Pew poll believe their children will have a brighter future.
So best-selling financial advice author Suze Orman, who I don't always agree with, said we need to take our future into our own hands. During a recent appearance on CNN, Suze offered some advice to help working adults prepare for a secure retirement and to help the future generation.
She calls it her best interview ever. One piece of advice is to pay off your mortgage before you retire. She also had some logical advice for college students.
