San Juan, Puerto Rico
This iReport is part of an assignment:
Preserve the beautiful island of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is a beautiful island with a rich history of great food and great places to visit. But a high crime rate and poor judgment of people who live in the island has caused an increase in garbage being left at beaches, streets, etc. As tourist come in hand full, there should be more Police patrol, more access to public sanitation and more funds to cover all the necessities that is needed to keep our island clean and crime free. The question remains as to where, where are the funds? Puerto Rico polticians are not concerned at all about our communities. We have streets with holes everywhere, floods that turn local streets into rivers. A change needs to be made from the bottom up. A report from the Latin Herald Tribune states that on Monday night in a hotel room in San Juan’s Condado district a man was found gagged and bound, an increased police patrol was put into place. As to my own personal view, the San Juan tourist district has not been patrolled as mentioned. I spent my whole week in San Juan at all sorts of hours including 2am, which I witnessed tourist with children and no police presence in the area.
The island of Puerto Rico needs more funds, more sanitation workers, full street construction and more police officers patroling our streets. Above all Puerto Rico is a great island to visit and to live. I urge our fellow residents and non-resident Puerto Ricans to push the issue further with our politicians to get the island cleaned up. Let us preserve our beautiful island.
