    Kiska, Alaska- WW II Battleground

In 1942 the Japanese invaded the Alaskan Aleutian Islands.   Kiska was one of the first islands the Japanese established a base.   In August, 2010 we were one of the few vessels in the past 10 years to visit Kiska.   We found a beautiful uninhabited island left untouched since the Japanese left the island under the cover of darkness in 1943.   We found a beached Japanese mini submarine, decayed and rotting military trucks, bunkers and other WW II artifacts.   The beaches are beautiful. lush and green.   Falcons flew overhead while other shore birds hunted for fish on the surface.   Kiska is an island worth visiting.
