Images of Disaster Fade as Recovery Builds

Over the weekend of July 23rd-24th Funabashi City in Greater Tokyo, Chiba prefecture held a cultural festival highlighting many of its businesses and an opportunity to show off some of the cities talents.

Scattered throughout the festival were photos of the recent Great Earthquake of 3/11.  At one such showing I photos of the disaster and the recovery helpers were displayed in front of an information seminar about energy saving light bulbs.  Heading into the hot summer, energy conservation is one of the few remaining reminders of the quake throughout Tokyo.

The festival also highlighted Japanese foods and many local dancers, many of whom enjoyed foreign style dances including hip-hop which is currently one of Japans most popular recreational activities amongst kids, together with belly dancing among others.
