Same Sex Marriage Day One Brings Out Love...and Hate in NYC- 2

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sjunat55 captured some great photos of same-sex couples smiling and posing for photos outside the Manhattan City Clerk's office Sunday. While many celebrated New York's law allowing gay marriage, others opposed it, as evidenced by some vocal protesters in the area. Overall, though, he described the scene as 'an atmosphere of celebration and hope.'

Here are some more photos taken on Sunday, July 24th, 2011, the first day in which New York State allowed same-sex couples to marry.

Hundreds waited in line from the early hours of the morning in front of the State office building in Lower Manhttan.

Along with the signs of love were the very vocal protests of a small group opposing the legislation.
