In 1962, I remember folks in our neighborhood building and stocking (with food and water), underground concrete bomb shelters. I thought it was kewl at the time to see that being done. My father told our family however, that if anyone survived nuclear bombs, in a couple of weeks they would be dead anyway, so he did not build one. As I see it now, he was right!
