This iReport is part of an assignment:
Do you remember the Cold War? |
Cold War memory
I am currently deployed in Kyrgyzstan, which is fairly close to the Russian-Georgia conflict. This definately brings memories when I served on Active Duty during the Cold War. I started my career with the 21st Security Police Squadron stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska from 1986-1990. Since Alaska is very close to Russia I can recall the days when our F-15 fighters were constantly being scrambled when the Russians were invading our airspace. It was a constant cat and mouse game. We would have base exercises weekly to ensure we were highly trained and capable of responding at a moments notice.
