Dubai, United Arab Emirates
This iReport is part of an assignment:
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: High-tech meets history
Dubai is such a beautiful and uniquely diverse destination. Wondering though the souk's (markets) you hear people speaking in Arabic, British and American English, Hindi, Russian, French and even Chinese. The city has both an old and new feel all around it. Wonderfull smells of the spice souk are wafting around you mixing with the fragrences of some of the finest perfumes Europe has to offer. You'll find older traditional souks on one corner then on the next a very American like mall, Emirates Mall with an Indoor ski resort called Ski Dubai. I found the local people to be very warm and welcoming. They get a kick out of our accents as they've mostly only heard Americans on TV or in Movies.
Unfortunately most Americans have a stigma about the Middle East that has been brought on by events in the last 20yrs. This is a shame because I found the people to be very warm welcoming and whole hearted. The Emirates (locals) seemed to be very open to Americans and their culture. They love Big American Autos and food.
They also happen to have have some of the world most amazing over the top structures in an attempt to attract the world to their door step. I had an experience of a lifetime while in the U.A.E. and I hope more people get a chance to see and experience this wonderfully diverse part of the world.
