Skiing Mt Ruapehu at Turoa
- elchueco, CNN iReport producer
We were lucky enough to spend the hot summer of 2011 in the New Zealand winter. We went to Mt. Ruapehu, an active volcano on the north island, to go skiing in July. It was an incredibly beautiful day. There were 2 lenticular clouds over the peak as we arrived, which then spread out. The guys skied above the cloud level, enjoying a beer and representing the Green Bay Packers during a break. On our way down the hill after dropping off the guys there was a rainbow, which is a daily occurence in NZ. The peak had cleared of clouds when we went back up the mt to pick them up. The white clouds and the blue sky were so spectacular it almost hurt your eyes with the intense color. It was a fantastically beautiful day.
