Sunday, August 14th, 2011
At the fancy resort town of Cascais in Portugal, the first leg of the American’s Cup World Series event, started on August 6th ending on August 14th.
With a good crowd of locals and tourists from all over the world, under an all blue sky and moderate winds, The AC Worlds Series promised to be a main sailing event.
The 9 teams of Catamarans started the first day of the race with a win of The Emirates New Zealand team, even after one of his crew members fell overboard. Soon the American Oracle Teams, started to show a good fight to the Kiwis, stealing the leadership on the second day.
On the final day, in a win all race, the New Zealand team with its skipper Dean Brown, gets the lead and wins the first American’s Cup World Series. That will end in San Francisco Bay California in 2013.
The victory of the New Zealand team was conquered in 37m and 41 seconds. Very surprising was the Artmis Racing Team of Norway coming in second with extra 21 seconds. The American Team
Oracle Racing Spit hill came in third with + 34 seconds
