Dream Factory burnt -- SONY Enfield distribution centre

The SONY Enfield distribution centre (in north border of London) was looted and burned with 1.5 million disks in the night of 7th August. Since it opened in July 2006, it has provided movies, music disks and computer games mainly to the UK (and partly to Europe) market.

When I visited there 3 days later, on Wednesday 10th, the black smoke was still seen from 7km distance (and smoked me up by the site later), and 8 fire engines had been working in turn with the investigation of the Police, ceasing the fire and not to spread out towards neighbouring business and residential venues. The ground around the site was blackened, by scattered carbonised something blown up to the air and fallen on the ground which looked like chunks of coal.

The location offered SONY advantages for logistics via the M25, as well as the quality of expected workforce together with the cultural-artistic characteristics and entertainment industry background of London. In addition, about 166 music labels distributed through SONY were damaged with their stock, as well (Music fans started LabelLove campaign to help them with donation).

Innova Park, the site of fire, is an intensified spot of the LDA development plan to re-establish North London as the national base of logistics and distribution, combined with office, training centre and residential buildings, which is still under construction. Nobody knows what true impacts of this arson will be yet, especially if SONY, a global firm, good cooperate tax payer to Britain and a big sponsor of FIFA, moves their distribution centre away (also 106 jobs according to the SONY press centre, some locals say the number of related jobs is between 500 to 750) from here and areas nearby.
