This iReport is part of an assignment:
Challenges of the next president |
Frustrated with Subjectivity
I have been listening to Senator Obama intently since January, and while I admit he was not as artiuclate as Senator Clinton, who I declare the hands down champion over everyone during the campaign season, in stating his objectives, he has been far more articulate than Senator McCain, and I find no confusion when it comes to understanding his goals for America. On the contrary, you can speak to practically anyone of the millions of bloggers on "My BO" and they can tell you precisely what he intends to do, and chide him when they think he is too willing to compromise.
My question is this: Why does the media still portray him as some vague entity that is still an unknown.
This afternoon on "Meet The Press" in response to analysis of what Senator Obama has to do to get his message accross, Gwen Ifill commented to the effect that she does not know what Senator Obama himself has to do to get (white) people to listen to his message.
My challenge to you is: Analyze whether in today's society it is still difficult for most white people to accept the word of an African American without another white person to repeat as validation exactly what the African American said. You may find this absurd, but I and millions of other African Americans who have struggled to control the positions of authority we hold, have had that fight, and may still have that fight, regardless of title.
My second challenge, which echoes the first challenge, is to discuss why the media has to analyze Senator Obama's pick of Senator Biden for his running mate as some reason other than those he stated as the criteria he used to pick his running mate?
And my final challenge is for you to analyze whether the video news media itself has become much too subjective in its own broadcasting such that skewed reporting negatively affects campaigns to become theatre produced to confuse voters, instead of focusing on the real issues, to fulfill its assigned journalistic responsibility to first keep the voting public informed, and only entertain as a story itself is entertaining.
