Bring Back 2 Million Call Center Jobs

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     stevefromFLA submitted this iReport as a follow-up to the question he submitted for President Obama, and the video response from White House staff that came soon after.
    - nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

Steve Gordon asked President Obama (through an ireport) last week what he could do to bring back the 2 Million Call Center jobs that were lost due to corporate outsourcing over the past ten years.

The White House responded to Steve Gordon's question this past Friday.

The response cited the FCC reports that 4,000 call center jobs are now being created each month. They also mentioned the President's goal of creating jobs by bringing broadband into Rural areas and the need to invest in improving and repairing our infrastructure and the jobs that would create.

Gordon felt the response was all positive news but nothing bold enough to make a real difference in the short term. With over 15 Million Americans unemployed we need bold action to create jobs NOW.

This is Gordon's ireport response to the White House. Gordon is calling for Congress Nedds to pass the "Call America Act"  requiring all companies that sell products in the United States to have their call centers in the United States. This Bill would create over 2,000,000 call center jobs in the next six months.

As the new call centers are prepared to open, jobs would be created for plumbers, electricians, painters, air conditioning and maintenance companies, carpet contractors and phone equipment companies. The "Call America Act'  would provide a financial boost to commercial property owners that have vacant buildings and for the commercial real estate agents who would negotiate the leases.

Gordon is calling on Congress to act quickly and PASS THIS SINGLE ISSUE BILL l  WITH NO RIDER AMENDMENTS.  "Congress needs to stop listening to lobbyist and campaign contributors and focus on the needs of their constituents."

Steve Gordon is the founder of  The Committee for Financial and Social Reform. The Committee  was recently formed so that Americans will have a forum to present their ideas on how to create jobs and reduce the deficit.  www.USAcommittee.com
