    Slight Tremors in Shenandoah Valley

In Strasburg, Virginia - 72 miles from the quake epicenter, in the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley, even the animals knew something was about to occur. We live in a two-story apartment building with 6 cats. Moments before the quake, some of them were visibly disturbed or fearful. Our 3 year old grandson Jacob was in the restroom at the time. My wife said you could hear the earthquake before you actually felt anything. The building swayed, windows rattled and pipes creaked.

10-15 miles away in Linden, Virginia, while working at a home servicing television equipment, I had just returned to the van parked in front of the house. I remember as I sat in the drivers seat filling out paperwork that the van swayed slightly back and forth for just a few seconds as if someone were rocking it or a gust of wind blew by. At the same time a co-worker was still on the roof and he later told me he felt the house move. Neither of us heard any noise.

It was our first quake experience.
