This iReport is part of an assignment:
Are you better off? |
3rd time a charm
I have been given my third lay-off now in 8 years in civil engineering. Each time I have found a better job, to finally make what I was in 1999 (not inflation adjusted). This last position moved us from MI to NC to work for a top 300 ENR firm, great benefits and challenging work until now.
Thankfully I have had good financial advice to keep us relatively safe. Little credit card debt, money in retirement, cars paid off, no student loans, house in MI is rented (at loss). We cut all our expenses, cable tv, no eating out or new purchases. Certainly not going bankrupt, but not doing anything to move us forward either.
This time it seems like a career change is in order, civil engineering is not working out. What to do next, I have no idea.
What do you think of this story?
