    Tropical Storm Irene Rains Kittens

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     boblabrie is a captain at the Goshen Fire Department, and sent these photos taken August 28 of the kittens being cared for at the station. We also spoke with Kyle Meservey, who went to get the cats from a box floating in a parking lot in Northampton, Massachusetts. Labrie said that he's happy that social media has allowed his organization to get word out about safety issues in town as well as bring awareness of the cats' plight. As of right now, six were brought back to the station and five made it through the night. 'When the cats are hungry, they let you know,' Labrie says. 'To hear them all crying makes you appreciate motherhood. They all want to be fed at the same time. What's amazing to me is they all fit in your one hand. They're that small.' - nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

At Goshen Fire, we've always considered ourselves a 'full service' department.  Well, we are now resetting the bar.

The 6-year-old daughter of a Goshen resident found a box floating in the parking lot of the Northampton Big Y during today's storm.  When she looked at what was in the box, she was amazed to find eight shivering newborn kittens.  Fast forward a few hours and after a phone call to our dispatch center, Goshen's Animal Control Officer and Highland Ambulance EMT Kyle Meservey was asked to intervene.

Here are pictures of six out of the eight kittens that have survived.  We've named them Irene, Jose, Katia, Lee, Maria and Vince after upcoming 2011 Tropical Storms.  While Vince is cute, we're hoping we don't have a chance to meet 'him' in the form of a storm.

Anyone interesed in adopting some cute little kittens that are currently being bottle fed (it's actually quite a scene at the firehouse) can call Kyle at 413-336-0228.
