    Kayaking on the streets, Rowayton, CT

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Mariepalmer sends these pictures of her children Jake, 6, Oscar, 4, and their friend Alexander, 3, kayaking on the flooded streets of Rowayton, Connecticut, on August 28. She says, 'Me and the boys talked a lot about the storm before and they helped me prepare for it, buying lots of food, flashlights, etc. and taking in all outdoor furniture and toys. We watched the news and followed Irene together.

    She adds, 'They weren't sure what to expect and were scared, and I felt the same, but when our neighbors came over to spend the night because they didn't feel safe in their house we all got distracted and it felt like we were in this together. [...] the flood came in so fast and before we knew it the streets of Rowayton looked like Venice, Italy.
