Victims of Hurricane Irene - School Children In Need! *UPDATE*
UPDATE: SEPT 7th
The REBUILD GILBOA Fund has started receiving monetary donations but more support is needed!
The REBUILD GILBOA Fund is working with the Gilboa-Conesville School board. We would like to use the donated funds to purchase EVERY student, K-!2, new shoes.
These new shoes we purchase will literally and figuratively be "the first step" towards normalcy for these kids.
We would also like to buy all the students new backpacks. If there is any money left, buy under garments too.
Payless Shoes has offered a great discounted rate and is willing to extend and combine some of the stores most aggressive discounted specials. Three GAP stores, Gap Crossgates in Albany, Gap Colonie Center in Albany and Gap Downtown Saratoga, have really stepped up. They (Gap) are accepting monetary donations at there stores on Saturday September 10th. These Gap locations have also offered a donation of $750-$1000. The Gap money can be used anywhere, not just at Gap stores. Gap has offered a 25% discount to all customers that make a contribution. They will also be accepting NEW shoes as donations. Old Navy, Banana Republic and a few other stores have shown interest in participating. We will utilize as much as we can from each of these stores.
Even with all this store support, we need more money. The REBUILD GILBOA Fund needs many more donations to complete the task at hand. The school feels this "field trip" to Crossgates Mall is a much needed reprieve from all the heart break and devastation that these children have endured.
Please mail donations to TDBank, located at 125 state street Albany, NY 12207. You can call your donation in at 1-(518)-455-9912.
The children of a small, rural school district devastated by the flooding from Hurricane Irene are in desperate need of help. Many of these children evacuated their destroyed homes so quickly that they only have the clothes on their back.
The Gilboa-Conesville Central School system has been crushed by recent catastrophic flooding. The school disctrict is approximately 150 square miles and serves only about 350 students from three(3) different counties (Delaware, Greene, and Schoharie). The communities in this district include Prattsville, Gilboa, Conesville, and Blenheim. Two of these towns (Prattsville and Blenheim) have been almost totally destroyed, but Gilboa and Conesville have sustained great damage as well. The community needs help as soon as possible.
The families in this area are struggling financially. Even those that have not sustained damage to their homes are serving as hosts to displaced families, and they are paying for this with their own cash.
Although there are many great charities and fundraiser's in place, a local fund, REBUILD GILBOA, has been created to directly impact the children of this school district. The fund is working with support from the Gilboa-Conesville school board and administration. One of the first goals of the fund is to provide new shoes to every student in the school, as well as provide back to school items and clothes, especially backpacks.
There are a couple of ways to donate to "REBUILD GILBOA." Mail donations to TDBANK 125 State Street Albany Ny, 12207; call Dustin Krause at TDBANK 518-455-9912; existing TD customers can Transfer Funds; wire funds; Non TDBank customers are asked to call the Albany branch to find out how they can contribute. An Online payment site is being set up also, more information about this will follow.
100% of proceeds will go to the GILBOA-CONESVILLE School System to purchase items for its students.
