    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     CharityD took these photos of 9/11 memorials in New York and New Jersey, on July 2, 2011, on her way home from Africa to Chicago, Illinois. CharityD was 9-years-old on September 11, 2001. She was sitting in her living room reading a book when she learned about what had happened. 'I overheard my mom on the phone with a friend, gasping in disbelief at what she was hearing,' CharityD said. 'She quickly turned on the TV. What I saw sent shivers down my whole body, and I watched in shock at the scene unfolding.'

    These photos I captured in New York City this summer. You see the NYC skyline, the construction site of the new Tower being built, and the inside of a building that is used to give us a preview of the new memorial at Ground Zero and all the information surrounding it.
