Cultural census: Get around
Volkswagen Thing covered in Comic Books
- nsaidi, CNN iReport producer
Just something I drive around on a nice day here in new Jersey. This is my 1973 VW Thing that I have covered from front to back with vintage comic book covers.
Want a ride?
Well here is the the VW story. I found it in a scrap yard some 5 years ago and it was a few minutes away from being dumped into a blast furnace. I decided to save the car since it had a good tiltle and I was in the mood for a good project.
Got it home and said" why did I buy this" It needed tons of work and I really did not have the money to restore it properly. With the help of Kyle, Spencer and Dave we got the car up and running. The body needed to much work and I did not the money. After several months of thinking I came up with the comic book cover idea
I know everyone thought I was crazy but I did it any way. I glued vintage comic book covers on the car than put a finish over them to protect them. I have driven the car on every nice day I can. I figure I have a few left
Now to the bad news. As of last Sunday I had to put my comic book baby on ebay.
It is currently on ebay and due to the fact that I am out of work and out of unemployment if I want to stay in my house I need to sell the car that I Love
If some one buys the car i get to stay in my house. Either way the chose is not good
I will know on sunday when the ebay auction ends If i need to move..
