    Opening Day at 9-11 Memorial as Night Falls

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mcintron visited the 9/11 memorial at ground zero in New York City on Monday, September 12, the first day it was open to the public. She shot these photos just as the sun was beginning to set.

    On September 12, 2011, the 9-11 Memorial in New York City opened to the public.

     

    My ticket was for 6:15 PM and as I strolled around the immense reflecting pool, the hours drifted by and before I knew it it was nighttime. These are some of the photos I shot after sunset.

     

    The Memorial is beautiful by day, but I thought, spectacular at night. It sits in the shadow of the, still under construction,  Freedom Tower. The tower lights up in gorgeous colors as the sun goes down.
