Tommy Hilfiger Unveils his Spring 2012 Collection

September 2011, New York NY: New York’s annual Fashion Night Out was a lot more soulful and much more funkier thanks to Tommy Hilfiger - who hosted a Macy’s concert  bash starring Joss Stone.

After meeting their fans for an in-store autograph signing session, Joss took the stage as hundreds of New Yorkers were on hand to enjoy the free outdoor concert on Broadway.

Joss Stone, a Grammy Award winning British soul singer, is a member of Mick Jagger’s new band SuperHeavy and has just released her fifth studio album LP1.

At the Tommy Hilfiger flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, rapper Theophilus London performed for fashionistas in attendance. London has been lauded for his range of styles melding hi-hop and new wave and has appeared in Tommy Hilfiger fashion campaigns.

In addition to the Tommy Fashion’s Night Out celebrations in New York City, Tommy stores in Miami Beach and Aventura, Florida also kicked-out-the-jams for Fashion’s Night Out with DJs, dancing, and assorted festivities!

At Fashion Week in New York City, Tommy Hilfiger introduced his Spring 2012 Men’s Collection which the fashion icon describes as “Modern Prep” at the High Line’s Chelsea Market Passage on Friday night.

Tommy’s  Modern Prep: Knits, Polos, Varsity Jacket, Classic Jeans, More!

Colors inspired by pop art make even classic knits and polos a bit twisted.  Iconic, American shapes are updated in contemporary fabrics and execution for a modern interpretation of prep. Color blocking and nautical stripes (used every which way, including as mac taping down a side seam on a pair of jeans) underscore the overall boldness. Camo, rendered in faintly dusty groups of tonal blue, green, and red, hint at the great outdoors, while lightweight leather jackets and desert boots provide extra protection from the elements.

For more urban adventures, the varsity jacket is re-imagined and paired with riffed-on nautical stripes and new-shape polos, replete with a collegiate TH varsity patch. Nautical-inspired tailoring—cotton twill suiting with taped stripes detail, a seersucker motorcycle jacket—are paired with brogue-detailed shoe boots and loafers in camo, cordovan, and navy.

Outerwear is key: the classic jean jacket in red leather, featherweight anoraks, extra-soft suede blazers, and leather-sleeved varsity jackets are essential to completing the look. Highly civilized, slightly rebellious.

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York City, Tommy Hilfiger introduced his Spring 2012 Women’s Collection which the fashion icon describes as “Pop Prep.”

Among Tommy’s famous fashionista friends in attendance were: Russell Simmons, Petra Nemcova, Carmelo Anthony, Malin Akerman, Abbie Cornish, and Hannah Ware.

Tommy’s  Kaleidoscopic Pop Prep Pays Homage to the 1960’s
Twisting classic shapes through a modern kaleidoscope of nuanced colors, Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring 2012 Women’s Collection pays homage to the 1960s.

Tommy describes his collection as the the fusion of Pop Art meeting Preppy.

Iconic American essentials are infused with the Tommy hallmark of optimism and vibrancy, while the swing of the 60s lends an effortless charm to a new prep attitude. Menswear heritage is re-imagined with a feminine hand, from shirt-dresses to long-sleeved jumpsuits and shirttail hems.

Warhol hues are paired with classic khakis and tailored denim in a refreshing take on color blocking. A custom Bespoke check evolves a menswear staple into unexpected separates and outerwear such as nylon anoraks and bonded cotton hoodies. Classic Oxford shirting is cleverly used in pieces like a motorcycle jacket and a basic blazer.

Nautical-striped rugby shirts and dresses in a range of widths and brights are worn with slim, luxe leathers and motocross denim.  Camouflage prints are feminized with a dot overlay and grounded with tailored chinos. The traditional twinset is modernized through the repetition of pattern on dresses, bags and shoes.

Saturated colors throughout are especially statement-making in evening wear and accessories. Evening adopts daytime’s easy vibe in jumpsuits and ponchos while structured shoulder bags, skinny belts and wooden-heeled penny loafers are outfitted in brogue detail and rose gold hardware. The cumulative effect - a Technicolor interpretation of the prep classics Tommy Hilfiger is known for.
Lisa Scarf was on hand for the runway shows and has more for the CNN iReport in New York.
