    Icebergs with Cows: A Study

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     MaxineTrotti sends us these photos taken on September 20, of a drifting iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. She says, 'We usually see icebergs from May to June. These are very unusual, since they are almost always melted by now. We suspect they are part of that enormous berg the size of Manhattan that broke off the Greenland ice shelf a few years ago. They don't affect us unless you go out in a boat. Then you have to keep your distance for the sake of safety; they can roll unexpectedly.'

She adds, 'Those that become grounded tend to linger. When bits of them wash ashore we gather them up, wash them, and put them in the freezer. They are great in cold drinks.'

A number of large icebergs came in yesterday. This photo was taken not far from my home in Newman's Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, on the Bonavista Peninsula. The site is a public grazing area. As you can see, Newfoundland cows are very curious creatures.
