Social Media and Policing? Vancouver Chief of Police an Advocate for Social Media

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     beetraveler talked to Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu about social media shortly before he hosted an online town hall meeting.
    - davidw, CNN iReport producer

Jim Chu has been with the Vancouver Police Department for 32 years and has been Chief of Vancouver Police since August 2007.

He knows a thing of two about marketing, as he holds an MBA while also having graduated from the FBI National Executive Institute.

I caught up with him at Vancouver's Social Media Week so that he could tell CNN viewers how his police force has initiated social media as part of their policing efforts. His Vancouver Police force has the largest online presence,  and tonight (September 22) they are holding the first online "town hall"   meeting. He believes it is the first time any police force in North  America has done that. While talking to my camera, he also references  how social media helped in relation to recent Vancouver riots.

Special thanks to VPD and Social Media Week for gaining this footage.
