Before Al Gore's speech, Stevie Wonder sang of unity and harmony -- a combination that needs to be reinforced in all the final speeches of the DNC.  We have unity, but without harmony, nothing can be accomplished.

The atmosphere was reminiscent of a 1960s peace rally magicly transported to the 21st century.  Black and white, young and old, men and women, catholics and muslims -- Americans were joined in unity and harmony.  These weren't hyphenated Americans, they were "just" Americans.   They were filled with hopes and dreams and the energy to help make those hopes and dreams come true.

Although commentators said Obama needs to present the nuts and bolts of some of his plans, this is not so.  Right now, Obama needs to continue with that energy that makes us all feel good -- about our country, about our future, and about ourselves.  From this Convention, Obama must send out "viral supporters," ready to spread those ideas of unity and effective change that engender that sense of community joining together to achieve a better future.

I hesitate to say that "the torch has passed," but the details can wait for debates later this year.  For now, he needs to continue to spread the bywords of unity and harmony.
